Earlier this year I had the pleasure of photographing the wonderful Spring wedding of James and Laura Rawdon, at the stunning purpose built Turkey Mill in Maidstone. Having previously photographed their pre-wedding shoot in Central London, I knew what a great, fun couple they were, and I was really looking forward to shooting their Turkey Mill Wedding Photography. Although the weather wasn’t perfect,a with  small flurry of snow in the morning, I knew it was going to be a great day when I turned up at Laura’s family home and straight away her Mum offered me a cup of coffee and a tour of the house. In fact all of their friends and family made me feel really welcome throughout the whole day, and made my job so much easier. I have to say that they are two wonderful families and James and Laura are truely blessed.

After capturing Laura getting ready I met up with my 2nd shooter for the day, the talented Mr Iain Gomes of Gomes Photography, a very good friend and collegue, who had been capturing the gents pre wedding prep, which seemed to consist mainly of drinking beer and doing shots ( I’m assured that they were apple juice….;)

With pre wedding nerves dispelled we all made our way to Turkey Mill. This is the first time I’ve been a wedding photographer at Turkey Mill, but would definitely reccomend it to anybody thinking of getting married in the area. The ceremony room has beautiful natural light, and as James and his best man watched Laura, who looked every inch the beautiful fairytale bride approach, I was able to capture some fantastic, natural shots of his and their guests reactions.

I dont think I’ve seen a bride smile so much during the ceremony, and the love that James and Laura feel for each other was plain to see, something really special.

Afterwards I took them away on their own for some posed bridal portraits. My style of posing is quite natural and relaxed, and I usually try and get everyone laughing. This time alone is really important as it gives the couple a quiet break from the excitment of the day, and it also allows me time to create the special shots that define my style and show the couple at their best. I use a variety of methods to achieve this and with James and Laura I used off camera flash to create some beautiful backlit images, as well as a beauty dish to light a stunning full length portrait of Laura.

As always I stayed untill after the first dance, and it was hard to tear myself away from such a great day. I always want to stay and get just one more shot. I don’t believe in charging per hour, I just stay untill the job is done, and as one of my favourite wedding photographers, Jerry Ghionis says, “Either go hard or go home”.
